General information

The faculty of Natural Sciences of Tirana University, one of oldest institution of higher education in Albania. It represents a long experience in the preparation of student generations, who worked or continue to work in important fields of social life as education, research, production or management, inside the country and abroad as well. Actually there are studying about 1500 students in this faculty: about 380 students in Mathematics (about 20 of them in the 5-years orientation), about 210 students in Physics (about 20 of them in the 5-years orientation), about 240 students in Biology (about 35 of them in the 5-years orientation), about 350 students in Computer Sciences, about 310 students in Chemistry, about 80 students in Pharmacology. The faculty offers 11 different kind of diplomas: 2 in Mathematics, 2 in Physics, 2 in Biology, 3 in Chemistry, 1 in Informatics and 1 in Pharmacology. The faculty offers also some diplomas of postgraduate in these fields. In the area of this faculty there are functioning several laboratories helping research activities or other users. There are two studying centers attached to the faculty: Botanic Garden and the Museum of Natural Sciences as well as centers of teacher qualification on the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

The department of bio-tecnologies is involved in research projects regarding the conservation and suitable fruition of transitional water ecosystems. Major recent project in which the department of biotechnologies has participated is the following: ministry of foreign affaire (italy) mobility project and great relevance project within the cooperation programme between the Republic of Italy and the Republic of albania 2005-2007: Interreg IIIB – CADSES- TWRferenceNet; RiverNet (Interreg IIIA transfrontalier Adriatic); Interreg IIIA Italy-Albania- AMJOWELS; Interreg IIIA Adriatic Transfrontalier-ECO-GOVERNANCE.
